Saudi developer to build gas plant in Senegal
Saudi developer ACWA Power has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build a 160-MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant in Cap des Biches in Senegal, the company said on September 27.
ACWA said the project would support the African nation's gas-to-power strategy, aimed at increasing the country's energy independence, lowering power costs and expanding access to electricity. The new plant will also support Senegal's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it said.
The Saudi firm signed a second MoU on building Senegal's first water desalination plant.
ACWA has a global power generation portfolio of 42.7 GW, comprising conventional power, natural gas and renewable energy.
