SDX Spuds Moroccan Well

North Africa-focused explorer SDX Energy said September 18 it has spudded its KSR-14 gas development well on the Sebou permit – the first of a nine well drilling programme on the company's onshore permits in Morocco.

The UK-based company is targeting an increase in its local gas sales volumes in Morocco by up to 50% and an increase in its reserves by more than 100% through this drilling campaign; it expects to announce the drilling results at KSR-14 in mid-October.

SDX first-half production 2017 in Morocco was just 546 barrels of oil equivalent/day, so about one-sixth of its total net 3,351 boe/d production in 1H2017, with the other five-sixths being in Egypt.

Chief executive Paul Welch said that, with the nine-well programme in Morocco, SDX plans to begin to address a portion of the local demand that it has identified. He added: "In Egypt, we continue to make progress at South Disouq, where we plan to drill the Kelvin-1X and Bragg-1X exploration wells, targeting 150bn ft3 of resources, in conjunction with two development wells in 1Q 2018.”
