Serbia, Bulgaria Back South Stream Project
Serbia and Bulgaria backed the South Stream project, with Bulgaria’s Economy and Energy Minister waiting for the financial scheme for the project to be clear before taking steps to overcome the present delays.
“To me and to the government this is a huge infrastructure and investment project worth €3.3 billion, which will create many jobs, influence trade and service in Bulgaria,” Economy and Energy Minister Dragomir Stoynev said at a meeting in Sofia with Serbian Minister of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection Zorana Mihajlović.
Mihajlović said that the project is of extreme importance to increase security of supply for the Balkan country.
“Serbia currently receives gas supplies from one place only and it essential for us to secure at least one more route,” she claimed at the sidelines of the meeting, stressing the importance of the Bulgaria-Serbia gas grid interconnection.
The project will be partially finance by EU under the program for the 2014-2020 period.
