Warsaw Business Journal: Does shale gas extraction really not pollute?
Poland's first comprehensive study into the environmental effects of shale gas extraction found fracking to be "safe" for air, soil and water
According to the first comprehensive Polish study on the matter, the extraction of shale gas doesn't pose a threat to the quality of air, soil or water.
The report, released recently by the Polish Geological Institute (PIG), examined the Łebień LE-2H well, the first in Poland where hydraulic fracturing was performed. Hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” involves breaking rock at depths of 3-4 kilometers below the earth's surface and pumping a mixture of chemicals, sand and water to allow natural gas trapped inside the rock to flow to the surface.
