Shell Announces Fram Field Start-up

Shell has launched production at the Fram gas and condensate field in the UK central North Sea, a spokesperson for the Anglo-Dutch major said in an emailed statement to NGW.

The field started up in mid-June and will produce around 41mn ft3/day of gas and 5,300 barrels/d of condensate at peak capacity. Combined this is around 12,400 barrels of oil equivalent/d.

Fram was discovered in 1969 some 221 km east of Aberdeen in waters 100 metres deep. Shell operates the field with a 32% stake, while US ExxonMobil's Esso Exploration & Production UK subsidiary holds the remaining 68%.

Shell had approval to develop Fram in 2012 but mothballed the project the following year following unexpected well results. It took a final investment decision on development in 2018.
