Shell completes first LNG bunkering ops in Jamaica

Shell on October 3 announced the successful completion of its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation in Jamaica. The operation was carried out by Shell's newest LNG bunker vessel, New Frontier 2, in Portland Bight.

The New Frontier 2 is a 18,000 m3 LNG bunker vessel and is part of Shell's lineup of 12 bunker vessels. The vessel is Shell's third ship deployed in the Americas.

"This also signified an important milestone for us in Jamaica where we conducted our first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in Portland Bight," said Tahir Faruqui of Shell Trading in a LinkedIn post.

"The New Frontier 2 continues to strengthen Shell's bunkering operations, ensuring LNG's availability as a lower-carbon marine fuel across key bunkering locations worldwide," Faruqui added.

Shell undertook this operation with the support of the Maritime Authority of Jamaica and the Port Authority of Jamaica.

Shell recently completed the first-ever LNG bunkering of a cruise ship in the Port of Gibraltar, with Silversea Cruises' Silver Nova
