Shell to Drill in Sichuan, Part of Bigger Tight Gas Picture
Shell's plan to begin drilling for shale gas in Sichuan is part of a global strategy of increasing its gas operations, with China set to play an increasingly important role.
Anglo-Dutch major Royal Dutch Shell will begin shale gas drilling in China's Sichuan province in end-2010 or start-2011, according to a company official. The plans are part of an exploration deal signed with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) in March 2010. BMI expects China to become increasingly important to Shell's global gas strategy as the company increases its tight gas activity in the country.
