Shell taps Wood for pre-FEED on Oman’s blue hydrogen project

Shell has selected UK-based Wood to provide pre-FEED (front-end engineering and design) services for Oman’s Blue Horizons blue hydrogen project, Wood announced on August 5.

The Blue Horizons project aims to produce low-carbon blue hydrogen and ammonia for both local and international markets. It will also capture and store CO2 emissions from production. According to Wood, this development is set to be the first large-scale project of its kind in Oman.

Wood will apply its specialist expertise in CO2 and blue hydrogen to design the integrated blue hydrogen and ammonia production facility. This includes marine facilities with ammonia storage, a 200 km pipeline, and a CO2 injection facility. The contract will see Wood leveraging its global teams across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, India, and Oman.

The pre-FEED work is expected to be completed in 2025.
