Shell Wraps Up North Sea Seismic Work
Shell has completed a 420-km2 3D seismic shoot targeting the Pensacola prospect at North Sea licence P2252, its London-listed venture partner Cluff Natural Resources (CNR) reported on August 22.
The Polar Empress seismic vessel hired from Norway’s Shearwater GeoServices completed the survey on August 21, CNR said in a statement. Data will now be processed together with existing legacy information to pre-stack depth migration, with final results anticipated in the third quarter of 2020. Some results may be available sooner, CNR said.
Shell took a 70% stake in licence 2252 in May, in return for funding 100% of cost of acquiring, processing and interpreting the seismic data. A decision on whether to proceed to drilling is expected in the second half of 2020, according to CNR.
CNR retains a 30% share in P2252, which lies northwest of the Breagh gas field in the southern North Sea and holds 309bn ft3 of P50 recoverable gas.
