Siemens To Equip, Co-Own US CCGT
German turbine-maker Siemens said November 7 it is to deliver key equipment for a 1,000 MW gas-fired power plant in the US and take a 20% financial stake in it.
Tyr Energy has chosen Siemens as the technology partner for the Hickory Run Energy Center – a new 1,000 megawatt natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant (CCGT) to be built by Kiewit Power Constructors Co. in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. The facility will include Siemens ultra-modern H-class turbines. Moreover Siemens Financial Services is providing an equity investment and will own 20% of the project, alongside Tyr Energy and Japan's Kansai Electric Power.
Siemens has signed a long-term service agreement to help ensure the reliability, availability and operational performance of the CCGT, expected to start operation in spring 2020.
Siemens will deliver two H-class gas turbines, one steam turbine and three generators. The gas turbines and steam turbine will be manufactured at Siemens’ Charlotte Energy Hub in the US.
Kansas state based Tyr Energy says it is an investor in and developer of North American independent power projects (IPPs) and that it "represents the North American cornerstone of the [Japanese] Itochu Corporation's global IPP strategy" currently owning interests in the 18 US IPPs listed on Tyr's website, most of which are natural gas-fired or renewables-based.
Tyr had already said August 21 that it had "started construction" of the Hickory Run CCGT, with Siemens as a partner, with scheduled start-up April 2020.
On November 6, Siemens confirmed it had signed a memo of understanding to install a giant gas-fired power project in Bangladesh.
