Singapore LNG Confident of Running the Proposed Second LNG Terminal

Singapore LNG (SLNG) is confident it can successfully run the proposed second LNG terminal in the Republic.

“We are always ready,” John Ng, the company’s Chief Executive told Bloomberg in an interview. “Do we have the capability to build, design and operate the terminal? The answer is yes.”

The startup date for the second terminal has not been confirmed but experts forecast it will likely be after 2020.

Singapore’s first LNG terminal started commercial operation and received its first cargo in May last year. Construction of the S$1.7b terminal began in 2010. It is owned and operated by Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG). The terminal began operations with two storage tanks and an initial throughput capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). The third tank and additional regasification facilities have been completed and are now operational, increasing the throughput capacity of the terminal to 6 Mtpa.

As Asia overtakes Europe as the world’s biggest natural-gas importer, Singapore wants to tap burgeoning demand for cargo and cement its place as the region’s LNG trading hub, Bloomberg adds.
