Singaporean Pacific Oil & Gas' Canadian Subsidiary gets LNG Export Approval

Woodfibre LNG, a subsidiary of Singaporean Pacific Oil & Gas, has received a 40-year export licence from the Canadian government for its upcoming LNG project at Squamish, British Columbia, it said June 5.

The project had got a 40-year export licence from the National Energy Board (NEB) in April. In its decision, the NEB found that the quantity of natural gas proposed to be exported by the Woodfibre LNG project, for a term of 40 years, is surplus to Canadian needs, and can accommodate a plausible increase in demand as well as exports.

The project received a 25-year licence to export approximately 2.1mn metric tons/yr in December 2013; however, amendments to the National Energy Board Act Part VI Regulations in 2015 increased the maximum term to 40 years.

In October 2015, the Squamish Nation Council voted to approve an Environmental Assessment Agreement for the Woodfibre LNG project and issued an environmental certificate to the company.
