Singapore's Blue Planet Environmental Solutions acquires Indian bio-CNG producer

Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, a waste management company based in Singapore, has concluded the acquisition of Mahindra Waste to Energy Solutions, an Indian bio-CNG company, it said on February 15.

Mahindra Waste to Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Mumbai-based Mahindra Group, specialises in converting municipal wet waste into bio-compressed natural gas (bio-CNG) through bio-methanation. This expertise complements Blue Planet's proficiency in carbon capture and utilisation technologies.

While the financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, Blue Planet emphasises that this partnership will enable the integration of their respective capabilities to develop comprehensive and sustainable waste-to-energy solutions.

"This collaboration unlocks new markets and opportunities. Together, we will penetrate new regions and deliver integrated waste management and renewable energy solutions. This partnership undoubtedly strengthens our capabilities and impact in the region,” Blue Planet's CEO, Prashant Singh, commented.

India last year announced a phased mandatory blending of CBG in CNG and domestic piped natural gas (PNG) segments starting the fiscal year 2025-26. This move is aimed at reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels, promoting sustainable energy sources, and achieving net zero emission goals.
