Singapore's First LNG Terminal Almost Complete
Singapore’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal is 80 per cent complete.
Located on Jurong Island, the terminal will have a capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per annum. The $1.7 billion terminal is expected to become operational in the second quarter of next year.
The Strait Times reported that plant will initially be used by energy firm BG Group, which is franchised to sell three million tonnes of LNG a year for up to 20 years, but 90 per cent of that has already been taken up.
The terminal will help Singapore supplement its energy needs once completed in 2013, and protects the local market against price and supply risks at the international level.
