Sinopec discovers gas in Sichuan province
State-run explorer Sinopec on August 17 announced a natural gas discovery at the Zhongjiang gas field in the Sichuan province of China.
The latest discovery increases the proved natural gas reserves at the Zhongjiang field to more than 34bn m3. Sinopec’s total known natural gas reserves in the Sichuan basin now stand at 106.1bn m3.

The Zhongjiang gas field is located in Zhongjiang County in Sichuan province. The main gas reservoir is 2,000 to 3,000 m deep and covers an area of 404.9 km2. The field is an ordinary sandstone gas reservoir, with low porosity, low permeability and strong concealment, Sinopec said.
The field has produced 5.29bn m3 of gas since it became operational. It has produced over 1bn m3/year of gas for the last two years.
