Skangass Completes Largest LNG Delivery to Gate Terminal in Rotterdam
Norway's Skangass has completed the largest delivery of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Gate terminal in Rotterdam, marking its attempt to increase the interconnections between nordic markets.
“At Skangass, we are in a position where we have spare liquefaction capacity at our production unit in Stavanger in 2013. When our LNG terminal in Lysekil in Sweden is in operation and we start to deliver to Preem refinery in 2014, we will have to complement our own production with LNG from other sources,” said Peter Blomberg, Director of Special Projects at Skangass in a note released on Monday.
Skangass entered into an agreement with the Danish energy company DONG Energy, one of the existing capacity holders at Gate. In this way, it gained access to Gate terminal and the Netherlands.
“The deal with DONG Energy is part of the solution. This means that we are now ramping up production and running our liquefaction plant at full load,” commented Peter Blomberg.
The company completed the delivery with the cargo Coral Energy. With a capacity of 15,6000 cbm, it is “the first LNG carrier of its size to berth and deliver a cargo to Gate Terminal.”
According to a note recently released by the Dutch National LNG Platform, seven fuelling stations are operational in the Netherlands, with 100 LNG trucks on the road and two LNG inland vessels in service. Rotterdam is the first European port to introduce LNG legislation.
