Somerset Guardian: Somerset fracking activists to be trained to take direct action

Activists fighting fracking plans in Somerset will be trained to take direct action as part of a month long awareness campaign.

Frack Free Somerset, a coalition of more than 30 groups across Somerset and Bristol, will be hosting a series of public meetings, talks, stalls, and workshops to help raise awareness of what unconventional gas exploration could mean for local people and the local environment.

More than twenty public events have been organised to take place during the second ‘Frack Free February’ including a workshop to prepare activists who want to physical resist test drilling.

Spokeswoman Helen Moore, who has recently been to protests against fracking in Barton Moss and Balcombe, said: “Direct action is a way to highlight what is happening through the media to the rest of the world. This can just be walking in front of lorries to slow them down or sitting on the floor and refusing to move.”  MORE
