Sonatrach Set to Invest 1 Billion in Environmental Protection
Algeria’s Sonatrach is set to invest more than a billion euros in prevention, security and environmental protection.
Energy Minister, Youcef Yousfi announced it on Thursday to the Lower House of the Parliament.
"Group Sonatrach will also allocate DZD120 million to the disposal of industrial waste, liquid and drilling wastes,” Yousfi said as reported by Algeria Press Service.
Earlier this week, Norway’s Statoil, Anglo-Dutch Shell and Sonatrach were awarded the Timissit Permit Licence in the Illizi-Ghadames Basin onshore. The companies are willing to test the shale resource play.
According to last EIA report, Algeria is the third country in the world for technically recoverable shale gas resources after China and Argentina.
