FOCUS News Agency: South Stream pipeline construction to start until June: Project Director for Bulgaria
The construction of the Bulgarian section of the South Stream gas pipeline will start in June at the latest, stated project company South Stream – Bulgaria’s Executive Director Igor Elkin at a meeting with business representatives of the Varna region on Wednesday, BNT reports.
In his words, the gas project will bring foreign direct investments of ?3 billion to Bulgaria, creating 5,000 jobs and additional gas infrastructure in the country. Mr Elkin guaranteed the compliance of South Stream with environmental regulations and confirmed that Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Management Committee at Gazprom, has held negotiations with Austrian Economy Minister to extend the pipeline to Austria.
The project is on schedule and the talks with the European Commission (EC) continue, he said. According to him, political events will not affect economic interests in the EU.
