South Stream Construction Works in Serbia to Start By End of Year
Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Serbia’s President Tomislav Nikolic discussed the Russian-Serbian cooperation in the energy sector on Monday, addressing the current status of joint projects. The South Stream project was the most important.
Miller and Nikolic paid special attention to the schedule for the South Stream. According to a note released by the company, construction will start in Serbia before the end of this year.
‘A special attention was paid to the South Stream construction that would start in Serbia before the end of this year. It was pointed out that the relevance of this large-scale infrastructure project was already confirmed by the growing European demand for Russian natural gas,’ reads the note.
According to Gazprom, South Stream will secure the direct gas supply to European consumers. After the completion, Ukraine-Russia standoff would have only a marginal effect on supplies to Europe.
