Southwestern Energy expands gas certification programme

US producer Southwestern Energy (SWN) said February 8 it would expand Project Canary certification of its natural gas from a previously announced programme in Appalachia to its newly-acquired Haynesville assets.

Southwestern’s certified gas programme reflects its ESG performance objectives and aligns with a broader corporate strategy to generate sustainable cash flow from responsible natural gas development.

The certification programme is independent and includes five times more data points than competing certifications with pad-level continuous monitoring.

“Southwestern Energy’s commitment to obtain third-party certification for our entire portfolio across Appalachia and Haynesville allows our stakeholders to receive independent verification that all of SWN’s production meets and exceeds the highest and most rigorous RSG standards,” CEO Bill Way said.

Independent certification of the company’s Haynesville production is expected to be completed by the end of 2022, while the Appalachia certifications are expected to be completed in March 2022.
