Statoil Awards More Askeladd Contracts
Statoil has awarded two more contracts relating to its Askeladd gas and condensate field development, which was sanctioned March 12.
Planned production from Askeladd will start at the end of 2020 and its gas will extend production at the Snohvit LNG plant, based at Melkoya, near Hammerfest in north Norway.
Statoil said March 22 it is awarding a contract for pipelaying to Subsea 7 and for marine operations to Ocean Installer in the Askeladd field development but did not disclose contract value for either.
Subsea 7 will lay a 44-km, 20-in pipe to tie Askeladd to the Snohvit field; work will last through 2019 with the installation to be performed in summer 2019. Ocean Installer will install two subsea templates in 2019. A 42-km umbilical, a 35-km mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) pipeline and two manifolds will be installed in 2020; Ocean Installer will undertake some other work. MEG is a type of anti-freeze that stops hydrate crystals from forming in gas and condensates, blocking the flow of hydrocarbons.
Both firms have previously been awarded similar contracts for the Johan Castberg development, so there will be synergies between these two north Norway projects. Aker Solutions has previously been awarded the contract for the two Askeladd subsea templates.
