Stena orders LNG-powered RoPax vessel in China
Sweden's Stena RoRo has placed an order for another RoPax-class E-Flexer LNG-powered vessel from the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling (Weihai), it announced on January 8.
This marks the thirteenth vessel in the E-Flexer series for Stena RoRo and the first to be designated for the Mediterranean region. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2026 and will be operated by Corsica Linea between Marseille and Corsica.
"The arrival of this new LNG vessel in the fleet is a strong signal that is in line with the ambitious course set for Corsica Linea in the coming years: to become the most modern shipping company in the Mediterranean by 2030," Corsica Linea's CEO, Pierre-Antoine Villanova.
“This new and highly efficient ship will be an important factor in our green transition and a part of our objective to reduce our CO2 emissions with 40 % by 2030," Villanova added.
The vessel's engines are of the multi-fuel type, capable of running on LNG, conventional marine fuel, or biodiesel. Designed to meet both existing and future international environmental requirements, the E-Flexer vessels are recognized for their technical innovation and efficiency.
Stena RoRo currently has 13 confirmed orders for E-Flexer vessels, including two New Max RoRo vessels, all under construction at the CMI Jinling shipyard. The shipyard will have six vessels in simultaneous construction. To date, nine vessels from the E-Flexer series have been successfully delivered.
