s1stenhousemuir: Stenhousemuir residents object to coal bed methane extraction

Stenhousemuir residents are outraged at an energy company’s plans to extract gas from sites around the Falkirk area.

Dart Energy has been drilling for coal bed methane from Airth since 2004 and has recently applied to Falkirk Council for permission to construct wells at 14 locations.

If approved, the site could produce around one billion cubic feet of natural gas and generate millions for the local economy.

But local residents are worried about the removal of naturally occurring toxic chemicals, which could contain carcinogens, and its affect on the local environment. They are also concerned that the drilling could impact on the value of their homes.

When s1stenhousemuir spoke to Yvonne Weir, secretary at Larbert Stenhousemuir and Torwood Community Council, she was writing a letter of objection.  MORE
