Strike’s Oz Jaws-1 Gas Project Comes Online

The gas wells at the Jaws-1 Project in Australia’s Cooper basin have been commissioned and are fully online, operator Strike Energy said August 3.

“It is a very exciting time at Strike as we progress towards our major objective of assessing the commercial quality of the coals at the Southern Cooper Basin Gas Project. We look forward to updating the market on our progress in due course,” Strike’s managing director Stuart Nicholls said.

The Jaws-1 Project wells are located at the Southern Cooper Basin Gas Project in PEL96 with Strike holding a 66.67% stake and Energy World Corporation holding the balance.

Strike has previously said it aims to achieve commercial gas flow rates of 50 TJ/d (1.34mn m3/d) from the project and early last month the company said that based on data it had collected it was confident of producing commercial flow rates.

Earlier in the year, Australia-based energy advisory firm EnergyQuest said that the outcome of Strike’s Jaws-1 well will be “critical for a number of east coast gas buyers”.
