Sudan, Algeria Agree to Cooperate in Hydrocarbon Space

Sudan and Algeria have agreed to cooperate in areas of oil and natural gas.

Minister of Oil and Gas, Mohammed Zayed met his Algerian counterpart at the sideline of Al-Bashir-Boutaflika Summit, Sudan News Agency reported Wednesday. Zayed said he discussed a number of oil and gas blocks that have potential to be developed.

Sudan has been aggressively working on developing its hydrocarbon resources. Last month Khartoum announced China will help in development of oil and natural gas fields in the country. Zayed said China will begin working to produce gas in the Red Sea, Sinnar, and West Kordofan.

The African nation began production of natural gas in 2009 from Tawakul well in Sinnar state within Block No. (8) with production of 3.7 million cubic feet of gas a day, announcing that the total gas reserve at the block amounted to 25 billion cubic feet.
