Talisman, San Leon Indicate Gas at Rogity-1 Poland

San Leon Energy has announced today that it, together with partner and operator Talisman Energy, has successfully completed its second shale gas exploration well in the Baltic Basin in Poland.

San Leon says the Rogity-1 well encountered continuous gas shows when drilling, over more than 500 meters of the Lower Silurian, Ordovician, and Middle Cambrian sections. The strongest gas shows were found in the in the Lower Silurian interval, and are estimated to be over 100 metres thick.

San Leon says the shows indicate a wet gas system, the shows having consisted of heavy hydrocarbons, including C1-nC8. The shows confirm the working theory that of the eastern side in of the basin being in the oil window, with oil shows found where the gas shows were strongest n the Lower Silurian interval. The company also encountered gas shows in the Ordovician limestones and shales, and in Middle Cambrian sandstone.

A total of 334 metres of continuous core were taken in the well to evaluate the reservoir's properties and to evaluate the mechanical properties of the Lower Silurian, Ordovician, and Middle Cambrian sections.

An open hole logging program was also undertaken to evaluate the potential of the well.  The evaluation of this program's logs and the core will take place over the next three to four months and the Rogity-1 well will now be cased for future operations. San Leon says the future operations may include pressure testing of the formations (DFIT test) and a vertical frack across several intervals.

Future operations in the Braniewo S Concession are expected to include a long offset horizontal well as well as a multistage frack.

Chairman of San Leon, Oisin Fanning said the company was excited by the drilling and data achieved with the Rogity-1 well.

"Our initial results show the regional variability of the basin and have confirmed our model of a more liquids rich system on the eastern edge of the basin," he said. "This is yet another milestone for San Leon and our successful partnership with Talisman Energy. Our continued systematic approach towards evaluating our geographically and geologically diverse unconventional gas acreage in Poland is paying off."

Following the completion of this well, operator Talisman will now move the rig to the Szczawno concession to drill the Szymkowo-1 well.
