Tamboran signs framework agreement with Clean Energy Fuels Australia

Sydney-listed Tamboran Resources on June 21 announced a framework agreement with the Clean Energy Fuels Australia (CEFA) group of companies, including Clean Energy Fuels Australia Marketing (CEFAM). The agreement grants Tamboran exclusivity over gas compression and liquefaction facilities for potential early production from the Beetaloo basin in Australia.

The facilities covered in the agreement have the potential to accelerate gas production and reduce flaring from appraisal wells in compliance with the Northern Territory's "beneficial use of gas" regulation, Tamboran said, adding that if all necessary consents and approvals are obtained, gas production could begin as early as 2024.

Tamboran and CEFA will collaborate on finalising a contract for the long-term use of the compression and gas conditioning facility for the proposed pilot development. The exclusivity period will extend until the end of 2023, at which point the parties anticipate transitioning into longer-term arrangements.

The existing compression facilities can be expanded to utilise available capacity in either the Amadeus Gas Pipeline or McArthur River Pipeline.

Additionally, Tamboran has secured exclusivity over a mini-LNG facility for a four-month period. This facility could be deployed to supply remote communities or mines in the Northern Territory by the end of 2024, pending necessary approvals.

The objective of supplying LNG to the region is to provide a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative to diesel for electricity generation and fuel in the transport and mining industries, aligning with the Australian Federal Government's Clean Energy Regulations and Emissions Reduction Guidelines, the company said.

Tamboran recently secured exclusivity over a 170-hectare site within the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct for the proposed Northern Territory LNG (NTLNG) project. This project aims to develop a fully integrated onshore LNG facility in the Northern Territory, with upstream, midstream, and downstream operations based in the region. The NTLNG development is expected to be supported by the gas sourced from the Beetaloo basin.
