TAPI Security Concerns Downplayed

According to an energy official from Pakistan, there are few security concerns related to the proposed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) natural gas pipeline.

New Delhi hosted a multilateral meeting last week on the proposed pipeline; Indian officials during the meetings were concerned about the security of the pipeline as it passed through Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Asim Hussain, an adviser to the Pakistani Energy Ministry, told the Press Trust of India that security really wasn't an issue with the $7.6 billion pipeline.

Delegates at the TAPI meeting last week expressed support for the project but couldn't agree on gas prices or transit fees. Another meeting is scheduled for Kabul in the coming days.
