Tellurian to start building Louisiana LNG facility in April
US liquefied natural gas developer Tellurian said February 1 it will start construction of its $16.8bn Driftwood LNG facility in April.
In a video posted on Tellurian's web site, executive chairman Charif Souki said the company has all the required permitting in place and will start work in April, meeting a target it set last year to have EPC contractor Bechtel take over at the end of the first quarter of 2022.

"On that score, nothing has changed," he said. "We will start construction in April, in earnest, and Bechtel will be on the site."
Souki said the timing for the project is critical now, with US president Joe Biden searching for gas supply for Europe.
“We have access to enough capital to make sure that we can do the first year's worth of construction,” Souki said. “We have signed non-disclosure agreements with 45 different financial institutions. We've got a number of banks that are now willing to consider the project. This would have been impossible six months ago and we are dealing with most of the large private and infrastructure equity financing.”
The first phase of the 27.6mn metric tons/year Driftwood LNG facility, consisting of two liquefaction trains, is designed to produce 11mn mt/yr of LNG.
