TEPCO Plans to Buy 2.3 million mt of LNG in January
Japan's Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) plans to buy around 2.3 million mt of LNG in January, up 7% from its estimated purchase volume of 2.15 million mt in December, a source close to the matter told Platts Friday.
Tepco had earlier estimated to buy 2.2 million mt of LNG in December.
According to Platts, estimates for both months comprise long-term contractual LNG and other forms of supply.
It is unclear if Tepco has purchased any additional volumes, such as spot or short-term LNG, for these two months, said Platts.
The Japanese utility has boosted usage of fossil fuel as tsunami of 2011 caused shut down of its nuclear power plants.
