Thai Egat Shortlists LNG Suppliers

Thai state-owned Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) has shortlisted 12 companies to supply up 1.5mn metric tons/year of LNG, it said April 22.

Winning bid is expected to be announced by the end of this week and Egat will sign a final agreement by June this year and receive the first shipment by September. A total of 34 companies had initially qualified to bid, Egat said.

According to Bangkok Post, the shortlisted companies are Chevron, Total, Marubeni, Emirates, Qatargas, Jera, Pavillion, Petronas, Shell, BP, Vital Asia and Thai state-owned PTT. Egat is expected to sign an eight-year agreement with the winner, the newspaper reported.

Egat said the imported gas will be used to run Bang Pakong and Wang Noi power plants. Egat has entered into an agreement to use PTT's gas pipeline network and Map Ta Phut LNG import terminal.
