Thailand Signs Natural Gas Related Memorandum With Myanmar

Thai cabinet on Thursday signed two energy related memorandums of understanding (MOU) with Myanmar, reported National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT).

The first MoU pertains to Myanmar supplying natural gas and LNG for three years to Thailand. This memorandum also seeks to build an LNG warehouse in Myanmar to play safe in case the LNG supply could not be delivered to Thailand, reported NNT.

Currently, Thailand is consuming one billion cubic feet of natural gas supplied by Myanmar daily. PTT owns a 5 million-tonne-per-year Map Ta Phut LNG import facility in Myanmar and is building a second one with the same capacity.

The other MoU is in relation to a 10-year plan to buy electricity from Myanmar.
