Thun takes third LNG-fired tanker

Sweden's Thun Tankers has taken delivery of the third in a series of four LNG-fuelled tankers ordered from the Scheepswerf Ferus Smit shipyard in the Netherlands, the shipping company said on May 25.

The Thun Equality will trade within the Gothia Tanker Alliance network, Thun said. Launched from the shipyard in March, the E-class vessel will emit 50% less CO2 than tankers running on more conventional marine fuels, as well as 86% less NOx, 99% less SOx and 99% fewer particles. It will also consume 35% less fuel than older models and boast increased cargo intake.
