Tlou Gets New CBM Licence in Botswana

Australia-listed but Africa-focused Tlou Energy has been awarded a new prospecting coalbed methane (CBM) licence by the government of Botswana, it said April 1.

The Boomslang licence, valid for three years, is on-trend with the Tlou-operated Lesedi CBM project, where independently certified gas reserves are already in place, it said. The licence covers about 1,000 km2, bringing the total licence area held by the company in to about 9,300 km2.

“With initial development operations ongoing at the Lesedi gas field, the award of the adjacent Boomslang area along with the Mamba area provides the company with further flexibility and optionality,” Tlou said.

The Lesedi project in Botswana covers about 3,800 km2 and consists of four coal and CBM prospecting licences (PL) and a mining licence. The latter area is the focal point for Tlou's operations and includes the Lesedi pilot wells and the Selemo pilot wells where Tlou had been flaring gas before the start of the drilling programme.

Tlou also has the Mamba project, adjacent to Lesedi, which consists of five coal and CBM PLs, covering about 4,500 km2.
