Tlou's Boomslang project in Botswana moves ahead

The Botswanan government has approved an environmental impact statement (EIS) for Tlou Energy’s Boomslang project, the Sydney-listed company said on March 30.

The company can now drill core holes and stratigraphy boreholes, conduct seismic and geomagnetic surveys, pilot test pods, monitoring wells and evaporation ponds, and install pumping monitoring, gathering lines and evaluation equipment.

The Boomslang prospecting licence PL011/2019 is located adjacent to the company's Lesedi coalbed methane-to-power project. In addition to the Boomslang and Lesedi projects, Tlou also operates the Mamba project in Botswana.

Tlou said the Boomslang project can complement the more mature Lesedi and Mamba projects, particularly given the presence of the “highly prospective” Serowe coalbeds. The Lesedi and Mamba projects primarily target the deeper Morupule coalbeds.

“Successful exploration and development of the Boomslang area could facilitate Tlou's longer-term strategy of expansion beyond the current Lesedi project area,” the company said.
