Tochigi City, Tochigi Gas and Tokyo Gas have entered into a comprehensive collaboration agreement to accelerate Tochigi City's efforts towards carbon neutrality by 2050 through a strategic partnership with local energy providers, Tokyo Gas said on July 13.

Tochigi City has prioritised the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, identified as a significant cause of global warming, in its second environmental basic plan.

The collaboration encompasses various key areas, including the coordination of initiatives for achieving a carbon neutral city, promoting energy self-sufficiency, procuring and providing low-carbon energy to public facilities, optimising energy infrastructure and operations using data, strengthening resilience and disaster preparedness, fostering regional co-creation of new value and activities, promoting environmental and energy education in schools, supporting specialized personnel for various initiatives, and disseminating information on Tochigi City's efforts to achieve a carbon neutral city.

Mayor Hideko Okawa said that by leveraging the knowledge and technologies of both companies, Tochigi City aims to expedite its journey towards becoming a carbon neutral city.
