Toshiba, TNB Genco collaborate on CCS for Malaysian power plants
Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions (Toshiba ESS) and TNB Power Generation (TNB Genco), a subsidiary of Malaysia's national utility Tenaga Nasional Berhad, have agreed to collaborate on the implementation of carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technology in thermal power plants in Malaysia, Toshiba said on June 27.
The two companies will engage in discussions and begin the full-scale introduction of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to thermal power plants in Malaysia starting in September 2023. This collaboration includes the acceptance of TNB Genco's engineers to Toshiba ESS facilities for training and personnel development related to the delivery and operation of CCS equipment.
The agreement between Toshiba ESS and TNB Genco aims to promote the introduction of CO2 capture equipment for coal-fired units, including the relatively new Jimah East power coal-fired power plant or any other plant owned by TNB Genco.
