Total Extends Myanmar Field's Lifetime
France's Total said May 2 it has commenced production from the Badamyar project offshore Myanmar which will extend the Yadana gas field’s 8bn m3/yr production plateau beyond 2020.
The Badamyar project involves installation of a new wellhead platform connected to the Yadana production facilities, the drilling of four horizontal wells to develop Badamyar gas field as a satellite of Yadana, and also a new compression platform. The project was launched in 2014.
Total is the operator of the project. Its partners are Chevron, Thai state upstream company PTTEP and Myanmar state-owned MOGE.
The French major operates offshore M5 and M6 blocks that cover Yadana gas field, which has been in production since 1998. Gas production from M5 and M6 blocks currently supplies half of all gas consumed by Myanmar and around 12% of gas consumed by neighbouring Thailand. Earlier this year a gas discovery was announced on A6 block, appraisal drilling of which will take place this year.
