Trillion completes 3D seismic reprocessing for SASB gas field offshore Turkey

Trillion Energy, based in Canada, on December 20 announced the successful completion of its 3D seismic reprocessing for the SASB gas field located offshore Turkey. The company is currently engaged in the interpretation of the results and integrating them with existing drilled wells.

The reprocessing utilised advanced seismic technology, an improvement since the initial processing of the 2004 seismic data. This enhancement offers superior imaging for reservoir characterisation, faults, and reservoir layers.

Trillion highlighted that the new pre-stack depth migration (PSDM) seismic volumes and velocity model have revealed continuous reflectors, clearer fault cuts, amplitude preservation, improved imaging of subsurface geology, and enhanced outcomes for attributes, inversion, and amplitude versus offset (AVO).

The updated model provides higher-quality data, enabling the clear identification of both previously known and newly discovered gas channels. It has uncovered thin sand bodies, validated the presence of hydrocarbons using various AVO attributes such as intercepts, gradients, fluid factors, and gas indicators. The model also aids in detecting sweet spots for potential new gas prospects.

"In the dynamic landscape of energy exploration, our reprocessed seismic data has unveiled a promising chapter for the SASB gas field,” Arthur Halleran, CEO of Trillion, stated.

“The revelation of extensive channel sands, particularly in the D and De-E zones, surpasses our earlier understanding of the field. This transformative breakthrough marks a clearer and more expansive vision of our gas prospects,” he added.

The company is 49% owner of the SASB natural gas field, one of the Black Sea’s first and largest-scale natural gas development projects.
