Bloomberg: Tullow Pullout Prompts Namibia Concern at Gas-Plant Delay
Namibia’s power producer said it’s preparing for delays to a plant intended to more than double the national electricity capacity, after Tullow Oil Plc (TLW) announced it’s in talks to quit the $2 billion Kudu gas project.
A 1,050-megawatt plant powered by gas from the Kudu fields is due to plug in to the power grid in 2018, a date that’s now in doubt, Namibia Power Corp. Managing Director Paulinus Shilamba said in an interview on Nov. 4.
“Once an important partner pulls out, it’s no longer business as usual,” Shilamba said by phone from the capital, Windhoek. “There may be a delay. The timeframe has always been our worry.”
