Turkey's Import of Iraqi Gas Not to Impact Imports from Iran
Turkey’s imports of natural gas from Iraq will not affect the country’s imports of the energy source from Iran, Press TV reported citing Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz.
Yildiz pointed to his country’s growing demand for energy, stressing that natural gas imports from Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region will not affect the imports from Iran.
The Turkish official added that his country is set to buy between 48 and 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas from northern Iraq annually.
Yildiz further stated that Ankara would increase its annual volume of natural gas imports from Iraq to 50 billion cubic meters in case Turkey’s southern neighbour can manage the demand sustainably.
Iran, which owns the world's second-largest natural gas reserves after Russia, is Turkey's second-biggest supplier after Russia.
