Turkey's LNG Imports Fall Further in May

Turkey's latest official statistics indicate that the country reduced LNG imports for the second consecutive month in May. In April it cut them by 26% and May by 32% year-on-year, despite a rise in 1Q 16, when Russia was withholding deliveries.

Overall, Turkey increased LNG imports by 244mn m³ to 3.718bn m³ in the first five months, year-on year.

Coming to pipeline imports, Turkey cut imports from its biggest supplier Russia by 1.33bn m³ to 10.135bn m³ in the five months, despite a 3.6% growth in May. Turkey's imports from Azerbaijan fell slightly, while Iran delivered more over the five months..

Turkey's total gas imports, including LNG, also fell by 878mn m³ to 19.937bn m³ in Jan-May, Turkey's energy market regulatory authority's latest monthly reports indicate. The country transported a little more to Greece – 25.5mn m³ – to reach 275.5mn m³ in this period.
