Turkish Power Demand Drives Up Gas Imports
Turkey imported up to a fifth more gas in the first nine months of this year compared with last, taking in 39.615bn m³ to meet demand from the power generation sector.
According to data from Turkey's energy regulator EMRA, the country’s pipeline gas imports were 32.738bn m³ (19.45% growth year on year), including 4.844bn m³ of gas from Azerbaijan (unchanged), about 6.945bn m³ from Iran ( up by 25%) and 20.926bn m3 from Russia (up by 23.14%).

Turkey also imported 6.887bn m3 LNG during January-September, which indicates 23.67% growth year-on-year.
Turkey is heavenly depends on gas import, as its own production is very little; below 0.3bn m³/yr. The main reason for the rise soaring gas usage in power plants during the first nine months, which indicates about 33% growth to 14bn m³ year-on-year.
