Turkmenistan, Iran Sign 19 Documents on Mutual Cooperation
While Teheran is increasingly sending messages to Brussels over its potential to decrease European dependence on Russian gas, Iran and Turkmenistan are holding negotiations to increase their cooperation. On Monday, the two countries signed 19 documents on mutual cooperation.
‘In a meeting with Turkmenistan Deputy Prime minister for Oil and Gas Baymyrat Hojamuhammedov here on Monday, the President voiced Tehran’s readiness to speed up execution of the agreements and further expansion of relations with Ashgabat,’ reads a note released by Teheran, referring to Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.
Ashgabat and Teheran are focusing on cooperation in the trade, transportation, and energy sectors.
‘Pointing out those 19 documents on mutual cooperation has been signed between the two countries; Hojamuhammedov said that Turkmenistan was seeking greater cooperation with Iran due to the existing good neighborly relations.’
The published documents don't explicitly refer to the Trans-Caspian pipeline.
A few hours earlier, on Sunday, the Director of international affairs at National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Azizollah Ramezani, said that Iran can be considered the best option to increase gas security in Europe.
