Turkmenistan talks Galkynysh field development with ADNOC, Hyundai Engineering

Heads of Turkmenistan's oil and gas industry met with officials from UAE’s ADNOC and Korea’s Hyundai Engineering to discuss the development of the Galkynysh gas field, state-owned news agency TDH reported on July 29.

During the meeting, ADNOC senior vice president Abdullah Al Shamsi discussed a broad range of issues regarding the third phase of the Galkynysh field development project.

Between 2022 and 2024, visits by the president of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the UAE solidified cooperation in the oil and gas sector, culminating in agreements outlining joint activities at the Galkynysh field.

Currently, the implementation of these bilateral agreements is in the active phase of practical realisation, the news agency reported. The parties are considering legal, commercial, investment, financial, technical, and other components of the project in detail. The realisation of these plans is directly connected with the advancement of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project.

During the discussions, ADNOC expressed readiness for joint work with oil and gas companies from Kazakhstan. State-owned Turkmengaz also held the next round of consultations with Hyundai Engineering to discuss the development of the Galkynysh field.

The Galkynysh gas field facilities are situated near Yoloten in Mary Province. Turkmenistan has the world's fourth-largest proven gas reserves, assessed by BP at over 13 trillion m³. Earlier this year, Petrofac won a $200mn operations contract from state-owned Turkemengas for services at the Galkynysh gas field.
