Turkmenistan to Boost Gas Exports to China

Turkmenistan plans a twofold hike in gas exports to China in coming years.

According to Associated Press (AP), Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdymukhamedov and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Tuesday presided over the signing of several deals, under which Turkmenistan is set to boost its natural gas exports to China to 65 billion cubic meters per year by 2020, up from 25 billion cubic meters this year.

The deals also envisage developing a giant gas field and building another natural gas pipeline to China, AP reported.

In another report AP said that Turkmenistan has begun pumping natural gas from the South Yolotan field, located near the Afghan border.

South Yolotan may hold up to 21.2 trillion cubic meters (750 trillion cubic feet) of gas, potentially making it the second-largest reserve of gas in the world after the South Pars field, the news agency reported.
