UK Awards Seismic Interpretation Contract

The UK Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) has awarded more than £200,000 ($258,000) in the final stage of its exploration licence competition which was launched earlier this year to stimulate further UK offshore oil and gas exploration activity.

Australian privately-owned geoscience company Frogtech, a not-for-profit earth sciences consultancy Geoscience Wales. and private company Geop4ysics Ltd. will now complete their innovative interpretations and products using data acquired during last year’s government-funded £20mn seismic survey of the Rockall Trough and Mid-North Sea High (MNSH) areas.

These under-explored areas were included in the UK's 29th Offshore Licensing Round, launched last month with 1,261 blocks on offer.

Kinga Wroblewska, owner of Geop4ysics, said her project will integrate rock physics into the overall interpretation of the MNSH data set.

Last week the UK's new Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark announced that the OGA will receive new powers on October 1, including: access to operators meetings; data acquisition and retention; dispute resolution; and sanctions.
