UK Erskine Production Restarts

Serica Energy has completed the remedial action to remove the gas hydrates in the Erskine to Lomond pipeline offshore UK, operated by Chevron. "Production from Erskine has restarted and flow rates are being optimised. Further updates will be provided once the re-commissioning process is complete," said Serica October 26. Output had been shut in since January.

The field, operated by Chevron, is a high-pressure, high-temperature gas condensate field and was originally discovered in 1981. Main reserves lie in three separate, but generally overlying, Jurassic sandstone-producing horizons. The field has been developed with five producing wells.

There was a separate problem in a pipeline further downstream between Lomond and Everest through which Erskine condensates flow, caused by waxy residues that could not be removed. Pipeline operator Chrysaor's plan of action was to build a 26-km duplicate pipeline, which has been completed.
