UK Gas Demand Registers 19.6% Fall for Q1 2014

UK’s indigenous energy production fell in the three month period to June 2014, with gas production registering a concurrent 4.2% decrease. On the other hand, gross UK production of natural gas in Q1 2014 was not that different to that registered in Q1 2013.

‘Within this, production of associated gas was 3.7 per cent higher, and dry gas production was 4.6 per cent lower,’ reads the last Energy Trends edition published on Thursday.

Exports decreased only marginally on Q1 2013, but remained at their lowest level since 2008.

In the two quarters of 2014, the real change occurred on the demand side,. Gas demand did indeed decrease significantly, following similar patterns in primary energy consumption.

‘Primary energy consumption in the UK fell by 7.9%, on a temperature adjusted basis it fell by 3.5%,’ the Department of Energy & Climate Change reported in a separate note

Gas demand in the country fell by 19.6% compared to Q1 2013.
